Hospitalist Program
Overview
Hospitalists are physicians whose primary
professional focus is the general medical care of
hospitalized patients. Their activities include
inpatient care, care management and leadership
related to Hospital based Medicine. Hospitalists and
Hospitalist programs have experienced significant
growth over the past 10 years. Hospitalist programs
are typically inpatient based physician practices
that are located within the hospital and are staffed
on a 24/7 basis. The practice is an integral part of
the hospital care process and works closely with the
Emergency Department, referring physician community,
case management and hospital administration. As an
active participant in the hospital process, the
hospitalist physician practice drives improved
outcomes, nursing and physician satisfaction,
unassigned patient management, LOS, throughput
capacity and cost per case. A formal and structured
program adds flexibility and control in implementing
hospital based practice and care management
processes and can be a catalyst for change.
Explore the ways in which quality physicians in a
well managed inpatient practice can add value to
